In August in 2 workcamps in Estonia ESTYES has implemented 2 workshops with the topic of intercultural communication within “Raising peace” campaign of Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service.
The aim of this campaign is to strengthen and improve the visibility of the role of IVS organisations and young volunteers towards the construction of Peace and Human Rights in Europe (and the world), by empowering through training, influencing through advocacy and raising awareness through activism and communication.
In both camps ESTYES carried out workshops on intercultural communication. Objective of activity was to involve young people into non-formal education activity which would make them think about problems of multiculturalism, human rights and peace in their society and in the world in general.
In Estonia 2 workcamps became part of this campaign – “Down town ENG” (based in Tallinn, 45 participants, took place on 1st of August) in cooperation with language school and old partner “In Down-Town”.
Second workshop took place in Narva, in workcamp “Vita Tiim 3” in cooperation with local organization “Vita Tiim” (in total 23 participants, took place on 3rd of August).
The significance of implemented workshops was that it was the only “Raising peace” activity in Estonia, that it was aimed not only at locals but also at foreign participants of workcamps (meaning, they would take this knowledge back to their countries and spread the word there) and that through these non-formal education activities and exercises they start to look at the situation and the issue of intercultural communication in a different way.
We wish to thank Coordinating Committee for International Voluntary Service and organizers of “Rasing peace” campaign for help with realization of these workshops.
